This weeks message looked at James 2:1-13. I encourage you all to go back and read through those verses as well as Matthew 25:31-46.
JP spoke on FAVORITISM...
James 2:1 My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism.
Romans 2:11 For God does not show favoritism.
Whether we like to admit it or not we all have favorites, those that we give our best...our A-Game too. In our lives we either run to people like ourselves or we run to people we want to become like. The problem with this is: WE ARE CALLED TO LOVE EVERYONE, INCLUDING THOSE WHO CAN DO NOTHING FOR US IN RETURN.
Check out Matthew 5:46-47
If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?
It's not just what you do FOR others, but also what you have DONE to others. My heart sinks just thinking about that. There have been many times I've been hurt, used, and ignored by others...I think we all know that feeling, and times I've hurt and ignored not just strangers...but friends.
Matthew 25: 40 & 45 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'..."He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'
Who are the people you are only doing things for to get something in return? If they all the sudden could do nothing for you, would you continue to be around them? Are you doing things out of love or selfish ambition? Who are the people around you that need your help? Where/how are you giving to and serving others? I pray that we will become givers...instead of consumers, host...instead of guest, and do all things out of love for our Father...who has already given us everything.
1 John 3:16-18 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
Praying for you all~
